About Me

I have always loved telling stories and listening to other people's experiences. With my background in gender studies, human sexuality, East Asian studies, and now museum studies, I've learned how to empathize with experiences that are not my own and learn from others about how I can be a better advocate for myself and other people. In the museum field, I want to continue that work through programs and evaluation so everyone's voices are heard.

Mission

As an emerging museum professional, I strive to be an engaging individual representing the transgender and queer community in the museum field by fostering inclusivity so more queer visitors and employees can feel welcome in our institutions.

Vision

My vision is to be a leader in evaluation and/or education, focused on visitor engagement and seeing how I can continue helping visitors feel seen when it comes to exhibits, programs, and their time spent in the museum or other like institution.

Values

Inclusivity

I would not be where I am today without inclusive measures put in place at my workspaces. I believe that when a space is inclusive, it is a more welcoming environment not just for employees, but for visitors as well. I believe everyone should feel like they have a place in museums.

Community Engagement

I believe museums are for the public, so reaching the public through programming, evaluation, community-collaborated exhibits, and more is an important part of museum work to me. Engaging with the community also fosters trust and respect, something I value at an individual level that I would take to the institutional level as well.

Empathy

I believe people’s stories and connections should be highly valued. Working in education and evaluation roles, I’ve listened to how people have connected to programs and exhibits and, in turn, connected to their emotions or words in some way to emphasize their experience. Analyzing data is also more than just numbers, it is seeing people’s experiences, and I don’t want to mitigate that.
