Community-Based Projects at Ziibiwing Center

This was the main objective of the Community Collaboration and Curation course I took in Spring 2023. While this course targeted museum studies students who specialized in collections and anthropology students, I was still encouraged to take the course since I was interested in community collaboration and wanted to learn more about how Native Americans tell their own history. We learned as students how to effectively help the Saginaw Chippewa community up in Michigan through various projects and I loved getting more collections experience as an education and evaluation specialist.

What I Contributed

  • Created an archival research guide for Ziibiwing based on their research interests and needs

  • Assisted in exhibit takedown

  • Created an art box with classmates for artwork set to travel

  • Assisted in object cataloging

  • Created a digital inventory for event documentation and other important documents
